Scholarships available to Undergraduate Students studying Art History and Theory
A number of scholarships are available to students of Art History and Theory, including the following.Bickerton-Widdowson Trust Memorial Scholarships
The Bickerton-Widdowson Trust Memorial Scholarships, administered by the Trustees, were established by a bequest in 1957 under the will of the late Clara Bickerton for the purpose of assisting students in the continuance of studies at the University of Canterbury. A number of scholarships are available each year to students of Art History and Theory.

The Chrystabel L Aitken Fund for Fine Arts
This Fund was established in 2005 from the income of an endowment under the will of the late Chrystabel Aitken. The purpose of this Fund is to support students in the School of Fine Arts at the University of Canterbury who face financial challenges which would otherwise prevent them from considering entry to tertiary education, or to assist with costs associated with Art History field trips for students. Open to a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident who has applied to enrol full-time to begin a Fine Arts degree at the University of Canterbury by 31 January in the year of enrolment

Friends of the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna O Waiwhetu Scholarship
This scholarship was instituted in 1992 by the Friends of the Robert McDougall Art Gallery to promote the study and practice of the visual arts in Canterbury. With the opening of the Christchurch Art Gallery on 10 May 2003, the donor became the Friends of the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna O Waiwhetu.
One scholarship is available annually to students of Art History, Art Theory or Fine Arts at the University of Canterbury, who are eligible to enrol in either a BA(Hons) in Art History or Art Theory, or the final year of study for a BFA.
Value: $1,500 per annum

Ethel Rose Overton Scholarships
The Ethel Rose Overton Scholarships are offered for full-time postgraduate study in Art History and Theory, or Fine Arts.
Up to eight scholarships are awarded annually for study for a Bachelor’s degree with Honours, for a Masters degree, or for a PhD.

$3,000 (BA(Hons) or MA(Pt I))
$5,000 (BFA(Hons) or MA(Pt II) $7,500 (MFA)
$10,000 (PhD)
Tenure: 1 year (BFA(Hons), BA(Hons), MFA, or MA)
